I N T E R V A L | performance series | 2020
I N T E R V A L series are dedicated to finding pauses and inhabiting alternate dreamspaces in the daily survival grind. We invite you to dwell in the short-lived respites and let your imaginary selves take over.
I N T E R V A L I | Central Park | 2020
Using the Glen Span Arch in Central Park to give dimension to projected video, Yoko Murakami blended into and highlighted the structure with her movements. Granulated synth samples with field recordings taken in Central Park by Serena Stucke. Microscopic video of sodium acetate crystals growing in a solution by Dan Tesene. Choreographed and performed by Yoko Murakami.
I N T E R V A L II | Synesthesia Gallery, Brooklyn | 2020
I N T E R V A L II was an evening of experimental movement with sonic and visual explorations. We imagined the geodesic structures activated by the human body simulating 3d models. Performed before a live audience by Yoko Murakami and Will Atkins. In a warped sense of reality, the performance represented our current need to adapt to this transitory state of living. The audience was then led to the second stage, a platform consisting of two projection screens where audiovisual artists ÉMU, Testu, Impakt, and Paloma Kop performed.

I N T E R V A L III | Ace Hotel, Manhattan | 2020
Testu Collective, in collaboration with CreateART and Ace Hotel, presented I N T E R V A L III as part of an ongoing series of intermedia performances exploring environments and spaces with new perspectives during these uncertain times. Testu collective brought immersive audiovisual performances and sculptural movement to the restaurant windows and outdoor patio. The performances aim was to challenge traditional perceptions of dance performance and audience experience by combining otherworldly movement through tactile sculptures with live electronic soundscapes and real-time visuals.

I N T E R V A L IV | MIKA, Brooklyn | 2020
I N T E R V A L IV was an intermedia performance and installation at Mika Brooklyn. We re-examined our immediate surroundings during Covid - the sense of claustrophobia and repetition. Through play with scale, perspective and spatial sound recordings, the audience escaped reality temporarily, opening the possibility of new transfigured impressions. The audience could only view the installation through a series of unique lenses, each distorting the movements of performer Yoko Murakami who occupied the interior of the performance structure.

I N T E R V A L V | Tivoli NY | 2020
For a brief few days in September 2020, the Testu Collective and friends limited their reality to the ringing summer days of Tivoli, New York. The resulting videos are a one-take improvised story spanning several chapters.
