Chashama Storefront | Art Residency | 2021
From January to February 2021, Testu Collective completed an intermedia art residency at a Chashama Storefront in Brooklyn, NY. During the second wave of Covid, they turned this storefront into a creative space for many artists. They curated music performances and installations, built sculptures, and created projection screens on the storefront windows to project videos from their ‘Solace’ audiovisual compilation. Testu explored the “in-between” space that New Yorkers found themselves in, staying home but wanting to create art in locations that people could experience safely. The compilation was born out of the need to express the immensity of the pandemic and the profound loss that we all felt, but found hard to articulate into words.
